Join once of my Door County photography workshops and explore your creativity
National award-winning photographer Cameron Gillie is leading this Door County photography workshop. It’s a weekend full of exploring new creative ways to expand your photography, sharing ideas, and making new friends.
My philosophy
Photography is about exploring the world around you and capturing it with your own unique creative vision. Everyone sees the world around us differently, so we all approach photography differently. This workshop is not only about learning from how I approach photography. I want to help you explore your photographic vision. Everything from seeing an image, capturing it with your camera, editing, and presenting the photos.
One on one learning
With a small group size, everyone can get a lot of one on one attention. A typical day involves traveling to locations at sunrise, returning to the resort for help editing your photos, then in the afternoon, there is some instruction followed by a photo review. In the photo reviews, we share and discuss our photos and learn from each other. Then in the evening, we head back out for some more on-location photography.
Sturgeon Bay
The beautiful town of Sturgeon Bay is the ideal home base for the workshop. There are many incredible photo opportunities within a short walk of the resort. Sturgeon Bay also offers a full range of amenities and dining options. We of course visit many other locations around Door County.
After photographing on location, we meet back at the Stone Harbor Resort to share our photos in the executive board room at the resort as we project our images on a large screen TV.
30 years of experience
I have been a full-time national award-winning photographer for 30 years. My diverse photography career includes being a photojournalist for daily newspapers, a wedding photographer, a nature photographer, and a fine art photographer. I was on the staff of the Naples Daily News, where we were three-time winners of the “Best Use of Photography” in the prestigious POY international photojournalism awards. Two of my co-workers went on to win Pulitzer Prizes. I’ve received many national awards in photojournalism, wedding photography, and have participated in some of the most prestigious art festivals in the country with fine art photography.
My most recent project is hiking the Ice Age Trail documenting Wisconsin’s People, communities, and landscapes for a photography book. Learn more about that project on my Around Wisco website.
Recommended photography gear
The Door County photography workshop is geared toward digital DSLR cameras or mirrorless digital cameras. It is recommended that you have a digital camera with manual settings and basic knowledge of taking photos, downloading, some simple editing, and sharing photos. Advanced knowledge is not required. This workshop is suited for beginners and intermediate-level photographers.
If you feel you are a bit rusty using your camera or have just purchased a new camera, I also offer short one-on-one refresher courses before the workshop
The workshop price does not include lodging or transportation. Our meetings are at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay, although many other lodging options are in town. Traveling to locations will be done with your own vehicle, but we can also arrange to carpool.
